FAQs on Weight Management, Weight Loss, and Weight Counseling

Should I Lose Weight?

This is ultimately a very personal question. That said, there are lots of reasons to lose weight if yours is higher than what is medically recommended. Healthy, long-term weight loss has been linked to health benefits such as improvements in blood pressure, blood cholesterol, and blood sugar levels. These improvements then lower one’s risk of developing heart disease, diabetes, and other chronic ailments. Weight loss is also likely to improve energy levels, physical mobility, general mood, and self-confidence. If you decide that you do want to lose weight, working with professionals will help you do so in a healthy manner, and is preferred to attempting a new fad diet or to “going it alone”.

What Should I Expect During My First Visit?

Upon meeting you, we will complete an in-depth consultation. These initial exams and tests will serve as baseline measures in tracking your progress at each step of your weight loss plan. They will include: reviewing your medical history; conducting a physical exam and body composition analysis; carrying out certain medical tests as needed; and developing an individualized comprehensive plan for you based on your results. If needed, we also offer health screenings for high blood pressure, diabetes (type II), and cholesterol levels.

What Is Behavioral Counseling?

“Behavioural Counseling” is a type of talk therapy that focuses on modifying human behavior. At Custom Made Weight Loss and Nursing Solutions, this approach allows us to work with patients struggling to make lifestyle changes. We utilize this method of care because behavioral therapy (that specifically provides feedback on diet and physical activity) has been proven to help adults achieve meaningful weight loss.

Why Do You Offer Services For Weight Loss And Weight Management?

Weight loss and weight management are two very different goals. To provide an abbreviated overview of each: initial weight loss efforts involve adjustments that trigger an immediate change in the body (think cutting down on sugar and empty calories). Maintenance, however, involves long term lifestyle changes that include a healthy diet and increased levels of exercise. Without these additional steps, any initial weight loss will not stick, leading to the “yo-yo” effect many of us are familiar with. Because weight loss and management are ultimately different goals, different actions will need to be taken to successfully do one or the other. Our plans will help you navigate this complicated process by identifying the specific actions needed to change or maintain your weight over time.
