The Wellness Nps
When trying to lose weight, it is important to consider more than the number on your scale. Because being overweight is connected to a number of ailments, patients need to know their overall state of health when they begin to make any lifestyle changes. They then need to consider how their current wellness levels should influence their weight loss efforts for quality results.
For example, if they are pre-diabetic, they may need to consider a particular diet to best address their potential ailment. If they have high blood pressure, they may need medication to help control their health problem. If their knees are very susceptible to damage, some exercises may need to be avoided for a period of time to avoid a weight-related injury. And so on and so forth.
These examples highlight the variety of ways that our physical health should be considered even as we take action to improve it. By undergoing an exam and specific wellness screenings prior to working on losing weight, you will be in a better position to plan meals, exercise, and work on changing your lifestyle in a manner that addresses your specific health needs. FAQs on Physical Exams and Screenings for Weight Loss
What Should I Expect During A Physical Exam/Screening?
Conducting a physical exam. During a physical, we will measure your height; check your vital signs (such as heart rate, blood pressure, and temperature); listen to your heart and lungs; and examine your abdomen. Each of these steps will help us find or rule out any problem areas health-wise, allowing us to provide a more comprehensive and personalized care plan.
Taking your medical history. A medical history will allow us to consider a number of things that may influence your health, including your previous weights, prior or current ailments, stress levels, exercise and eating habits, medications, and more. We will also want to hear about your family's medical history to see if you may be predisposed to certain conditions.
Gather weight-related data. When we first meet with you, we will want to measure where you're starting in your weight loss levels. We do this by calculating your BMI (body mass index) to determine your overall risk of developing weight-related health problems. We also measure your waist circumference to determine if excess fat is being stored around your waist (where it increases the risk of diabetes and heart diseases)
