While doctors are unable to prescribe medical cannabis personally, they are able to still supply their patients with medical marijuana recommendations that are in compliance with the state. If you have any chronic conditions that are within the state’s law that are allowed to obtain a medical cannabis certification, our doctors are able to help with that.
Our recommendation allows you access to apply for a medical marijuana card through Maryland Medicinal Cannabis Commission. You will not be able to legally buy or obtain medical cannabis without your application being reviewed, approved, paid for, and received by the state.
To obtain a medical cannabis certification, you will have to follow these steps:
1. Visit the Maryland Medicinal Cannabis Commission website and complete the application.
2. Once you have received your Maryland State-issued 14-digit registration number, contact our clinic The Wellness NPs to book an appointment.
3. One of our providers will complete an evaluation online with you.
4. Once it has been approved, you can return to the Maryland Medicinal Cannabis Commission website to request your certification card to be mailed.
While the list of requirements is short in retrospect, you do need certain forms and medical recommendations in order to be able to receive the certification. This is important, as cannabis is still considered illegal if used as a recreational drug within Maryland. You are only able to use cannabis legally if you have the Maryland Medicinal Cannabis Commission certification card to showcase you can legally have and carry medical cannabis.
To qualify for a medical cannabis card within Maryland, you will be to be at least 18 years of age, or if you are underage, you will need a caregiver that is of at least 21 years of age to apply for a medical cannabis card for you.
To apply for a medical cannabis card, Maryland Medicinal Cannabis Commission will need to see a piece of ID which includes a driver’s license/permit, a United States passport, and any documents pertaining to you being a resident of the state. You will then need to register with the Maryland Medicinal Cannabis Commission and wait for your submission to be approved. Once approved, you will take the ID number and visit one of our providers to get the application approved by them, a temporary card is issued which can be used for 90 days before your physical card is created and sent out via mail. If you want to keep your medical cannabis certification, you will need to continue to recertify each year with a physician like ours at The Wellness NPs.
