How and when did the practice start? What was the founding vision?

The Wellness NPs was founded nearly eight years ago out of a deep frustration I felt as a nurse practitioner. I often felt like I was simply prescribing medications—treating diseases that could have been prevented if we had focused on wellness earlier.

I didn’t want to just manage disease. I wanted to get in front of it.

I saw that weight management, nutrition, exercise, hormone balance, and lifestyle were the cornerstones of prevention. So I built a practice rooted in proactive care. The founding vision was clear: create a nurse practitioner–led wellness practice that focuses on prevention, root-cause medicine, and long-term vitality—not just symptom control.

We believe an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Beyond providing care, what is the practice’s ultimate mission?

Our mission is to promote health and prevent disease by identifying and addressing the root cause of imbalance.

We exist to help men and women reclaim their energy, confidence, metabolic health, and hormonal balance so they can live fully and age powerfully.

We don’t just want our patients surviving—we want them thriving.

What is the practice’s unique philosophy of care?

We practice holistic, integrative, root-cause medicine.

In a traditional model, you have a symptom and get a prescription. In our model, we ask:

● Why is this happening?
● What system is out of balance?
● What is the body signaling?

We combine conventional diagnostics with evidence-based wellness strategies including:

● Hormone optimization
● Medical weight management
● Nutrition and lifestyle support
● Preventive health screenings

We listen first. We investigate deeply. We personalize everything.

No cookie-cutter plans. No one-size-fits-all protocols.

What is one specific service, specialty, or technology that truly sets this practice apart?

Our hormone optimization and metabolic/weight management health integration sets us apart.

● We specialize in bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT), testosterone optimization for both women and men, and medically supervised weight management — all under one coordinated care model.
● Many clinics treat weight.
● Many clinics treat hormones.
● Few truly connect metabolism, hormones, lifestyle, and prevention in one cohesive plan.
● We do.

How do you approach patient care differently?

We build partnership, not transactions.

When a patient comes to The Wellness NPs, they become family. We support them throughout their journey.

We:

● Take our time during appointments
● Explain labs in plain language
● Educate patients about their body systems
● Create customized programs collaboratively
● Maintain a non-judgmental environment

Especially in weight loss, there has been so much shame and blame. We want our patients to know:
It’s not your fault.

Your body deserves to be understood.

What does a typical day look like for your staff?

No two days are exactly alike—and we love that.

A typical day may include:

● Comprehensive hormone consultations
● Body composition analysis
● Lab reviews
● Weight management visits
● Testosterone Injections and follow-ups
● Preventive screenings
● Corporate wellness planning
● Telehealth consultations
● Hormone Pellet Insertions
● B12-Injections
● Team Huddles and Staff Development

We are results-driven but deeply compassionate. Every interaction matters.

What is the one thing you want every patient to know?

● We care. We listen. We will walk with you.
● You are not just a chart number here.
● If you are struggling with weight, fatigue, brain fog, low libido, hormonal shifts, or metabolic resistance — you are not broken.
● You just need the right plan and the right support.

What do you consider the practice’s biggest success or proudest moment?

Some of our proudest moments are watching patients transform—not just physically, but emotionally.

Patients walk in with low confidence and self-esteem because of their weight or symptoms. Months later, they walk taller. They smile brighter. They feel confident again.

We are also proud of serving organizations such as:

The Kennedy Center
US Vets
● Vulcan Hart

Especially during COVID, when we provided corporate wellness services and community education in extremely challenging conditions.

Service is core to who we are.

How would you describe the culture of the practice in three words?

● Passionate.
● Supportive.
● Results-driven.

How do you build trust with your patients?

Transparency. Education. Time.

We:

● Explain the disease process thoroughly
● Share the “why” behind treatment decisions
● Avoid rushing appointments
● Maintain a non-judgmental environment
● Encourage open conversation

We believe trust is built when patients feel heard and understood.

Have you personally experienced the challenges you specialize in?

Yes.

As I’ve navigated perimenopause, I experienced fatigue, brain fog, low libido, body aches, and feeling “off.” After starting hormone replacement therapy, I noticed a tremendous improvement in my energy, clarity, and overall quality of life.

That personal experience deepened my commitment to this work. I understand what it feels like to not feel like yourself.

And I understand how life-changing it is to feel restored.

Can you share a memorable community experience?

The Laurel Main Street Festival is one of my favorite experiences.

We provide blood pressure screenings, body composition analysis, and health education. Many people discover elevated blood pressure for the first time. We often call hypertension the “silent killer” because so many people don’t know they have it.

Being able to identify risk early and educate our community is incredibly meaningful.

What inspired you to pursue a career as a nurse practitioner?

I’ve always been passionate about health and performance. I was a college athlete and committed to optimizing my body and wellness.

Around age 18, I watched the show ER and was inspired by the character Karol, a nurse who demonstrated both compassion and strength. That inspired me to become a nurse.

Years later, I discovered the Nurse Practitioner role and realized it was the perfect fit — advanced practice, autonomy, diagnostics, treatment planning, and the ability to deeply impact patient outcomes.

I knew that was my calling.

Do you have any publications?

Yes. I am the author of:

1. The DMV Woman’s Guide to Hormone Health: The Wellness NPs Guide to Reclaiming Your Energy, Mood, and Metabolism.

2. Getting Past the Ugly through the Beauty of Self Love: A 30-Day Devotional to Higher Self-Esteem.

Are you a member of any professional organizations?

Yes, I am a member of:

The American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP)
WorldLink Medical
A4M (American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine)
The Obesity Society

Have you received any awards or notable achievements?

● U.S. Navy Veteran
● Associate Professor of Nursing
● Over 20 years of advanced clinical experience
